Introducing WebCalendar
A web based calendar that will help you organize your appointments and work. WebCalendar is based on PHP and supports MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, DB2, Interbase, MS SQL Server, or ODBC databases. It can be used in single user mode or in multi-user mode and event a group calendar.
Installing WebCalender – Fantastico De Luxe
- Step 1: Login to your Admin cPanel http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel
- Step 2: Locate and click on the Fantastico De Luxe Icon
- Step 3: Under the “Other Scripts” section, find and click on “WebCalendar”
- Step 4: In the right panel, select “New Installation”
- Step 5: on page 1 of the installation process, you will be prompted for the installation directory. To have “WebCalendar” installed on your website’s main page (http://www.yourdomain.com) leave it blank else, insert the directory of your choice (http://www.yourdomain.com/webcalendar). Fill out all the required information accordingly and click “Install WebCalendar”.
- Step 6: A summary of the installation details will be posted. Once read, click “Finish Installation”. You will also see the link to your WebCalendar; click it to start using the application.
Installing WebCalendar – Manually
Manual installation of WebCalendar is an automatic procedure via the web interface that will guide you through step-by-step in order to have WebCalendar fully and correctly installed..
- Step 1: Download the latest stable version of WebCalendar to your desktop.
- Step 2: Uncompress the downloaded file to a specified directory on your desktop.
- Step 3: Upload the extracted files (keeping the directories structure intact) to your web hosting account via FTP to a specified directory of your choice (e.g. /webcalendar).
- Step 4: Login to your Admin cPanel, locate and click on MySQL Databases.
- Step 5: Create a MySQL database and save its name along with the username and password for future use.
- Step 6: Using your browser, go to the location of your newly uploaded files: http://www.yourdomain.com/webcalendar/
- Step 7: The first step of the web installer will be displayed:
Step 8: Fill in the required information and click “Save Settings”. The database credentials required are the ones you created in step 4.
- Step 9: Next, you will have to choose an administrative password, choose one and save the settings.
Step 10: After choosing the admin password and logging in, you can test the database connection. Once everything is working fine, save your settings another time and click on “Launch WebCalendar”.
That should do the job! You should have WebCalendar up and running...
Using WebCalendar
Create an Entry
To add an entry on a certain date, simply:
- Choose the date of your choice
- Click on the + sign on the top right of the box.
- Insert the proper comments and set the settings according to your needs.
- Once done, click “Save”.
Change the Calendar View
To have your custom calendar view:
- Click on the “Admin” link on the bottom menu of the page.
- Click on “Views”.
- Click on “Add new View”
- Select your proper settings and click “Add”
Create a new user
To create a new user:
- Click on the “Admin” link on the bottom menu of the page.
- Click on “Users”.
- Click on “Add new user”
- Fill in the required fields and click “Save”
Note: Each user has its own personal calendar.
Backup WebCalendar database
- Step 1: Login to your hosting account cPanel, locate and click on the “PhpMyAdmin” icon.
- Step 2: From within PhpMyAdmin, choose the WebCalendar Database.
- Step 3: On the top menu of the database table list, click on “Export”
- Step 4: In the export options, make sure you:
- “Select All” Tables.
- Check “Structures” property.
- Check “Data” property.
- Check “Save as” option.
- Step 5: Once you double check that all the options in step 4 are set, click Go and save to the file to your desktop.
